I just wanted to give an update on Payten before I go drop from exhaustion. Last night the plan was for the Doctors to monitor Payten while she slept, to make sure the desaturations and apnea she was having pre-trach, resolved itself post-trach! Unfortunately, Payten did not cooperate, instead, she decided to stay awake all night until 4:30 this morning. However, even though they did not get an opportunity to observe her post-trach sleeping off the vent, they still approved her discharge to go home this morning.
Unfortunately, because I am crazy and do not like clutter and therefore a month and a half ago got rid of all of Payten's supplies for the trach, we got stuck waiting for approval/authorization from CIGNA to order new supplies and a new suction machine and cool aerosol machine and if you have ever dealt with insurance companies, then you know they do not care about your time, instead they go at their own pace, which is usually very slow! Therefore we did not get to go home today, because the insurance company never sent the authorization over. So Payten is spending another night in the hospital. Hopefully CIGNA will get their act together in the morning, so we can go home first thing tomorrow morning, because the longer we get stuck/stay in the hospital the more likely Payten will catch something that will prevent her from going home.
As much as I despise hospital stays, I believe I despise insurance companies more! It just does not make sense to me, they could have easily sent an authorization over to Apria, which is our medical supply company, this afternoon, but instead they decided to take their sweet time and pay for another day/night in the ICU. No wonder our rates are so darn high! They do stupid things like this! But hey, it works, because now the Doctors will get their night to observe Payten, that is if she sleeps! Which will allow them to determine if her sleep has indeed improved from having the trach reinserted and besides Joseph and I get another night of peace and quiet! See there really is a silver lining to everything!
Another positive note I want to share about Payten is, she has only pulled her trach out once, since it was reinserted! Can we say miracle?! I hope that this is a sign that things will be good and that Payten will not pull the trach out a hundred times a day, like she did prior to ever being decanulated 8 months ago! That would be an awesome blessing for sure and seeing her do so well these past few days, by leaving it alone, gives me the hope that it will indeed be a reality and Payten will stop pulling out her trach! So all in all things are looking up for us and once we get home, we will be doing great! Again I would like to say thank you to everyone who has prayed for Payten. I know that this hospitalization went smooth and did not last as long, due to all of the prayers that were said in Payten's behalf! You all are the best and our family loves and appreciates each and everyone of you! We are excited to finally get back to normal! Which hopefully will begin tomorrow. Please pray that CIGNA will get their act together and send authorization for medical equipment tomorrow. For now, I am going to drop myself in bed and dream of happy things and I hope all of you can do the same and that you may all have a great day tomorrow. Good night!
